Communication Surveys

The thing that surprised me most about others perceptions of my communication was the fact that the two people that evaluated me felt like I was comfortable and relaxed. I find myself feeling nervous when speaking among groups. I don't mean that I feel really, really scared or nervous but I don't feel cool as a cucumber either. (SMILE) It surprised me that they felt that I was comfortable when speaking with them. I guess two things that I have learned were to focus more on being relaxed and present for the conversation instead of trying to be so perfect and solve every problem. The other thing I learned is that sometimes you need to take a moment and check with associates and colleagues and let them tell you how you are doing. The way you feel may be one way and the way they feel could be another. I was more afraid that my colleagues may have evaluated me at a worse perception than I did myself. Actually it came out that I was doing better than I thought! So I think learning to accept others criticism of your communication skills is very important.

  1. Susann,
Through my on-line interactions with you, I get the sense that you are a calm, thoughtful person and are mindful of what you say. I'm sure those that know you better see it too. I'm not surprised that they saw you as comfortable and relaxed.

  2. Wow, Susann, I said almost the same thing about group speaking. Like you, my other testers feel that I am much more relaxed doing group speaking than I really am. We must be demonstrating very confident body language!

  3. Hi Susann,
I feel the same way when I speak to a group of adults, but when I am around a group of children my feels are different. I am more relaxed around children and I can talk to them for hours. On Tuesday my husband and I went to Barnes and Noble to look around and a little girl (she is three years old) came up to me and wanted me to read her a story and before I knew it I had a group of six little kids hanging around me while I read to them. I liked it a lot because the kids were listening and hun to my every word.

  4. Susann,

I LOVE public speaking and because I am a trainer, I do it daily. I thought I might come across as an aggressive communicator, but my test results and those of the others I asked to take it indicated that I had good balance, which was good to hear. All of my results were within a point or two of my own, which is pretty much it, what you see is what you get. I found the quizzes really interesting and would like to use them in my trainings with my classroom teams.

  5. Hi Susann,
I have observed you online in several classes and I must say all of your communication has been consistently positive and friendly. I think this was a rare opportunity see how other people perceive our communication skills.
